I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in French and Political Science, and my future aspirations include pursuing a Juris Doctor program with the goal of becoming a Human Rights lawyer. My academic background has provided me with a solid understanding of international relations, law, and a strong proficiency in both of Canada's official languages.
I feel a deep connection to the Fort Foundation family and take great pride in being part of such a meaningful community. The foundation’s work aligns with my passion for human rights and social justice, and being involved has only strengthened my commitment to advocating for those whose voices need to be heard.

Executive Director
Sarah Spence
My career is driven by a deep passion for law and a steadfast commitment to advocacy, legal empowerment, and community service. As an immigrant to Canada, I faced firsthand the challenges of navigating the legal system while overcoming personal hardships, including divorce, eviction, and financial instability as a single mother. These experiences provided me with invaluable insight into the systemic barriers faced by low-income families, newcomers, and individuals in crisis.
With over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit and charitable sectors, I have dedicated my career to supporting underserved communities. Even while working in for-profit organizations, I actively organized fundraising initiatives to assist those in need. Rather than allowing adversity to define me, I transformed these challenges into a driving force for change, working to bridge gaps in legal access and social services.
I hold an LLB (Hons) in Law from De Montfort University and a degree in Nonprofit Management from Mount Royal University. My work with the Fort Foundation is centered on ensuring that individuals who do not qualify for Legal Aid yet cannot afford legal representation receive the support they need. By helping families navigate complex legal challenges, preventing homelessness, and connecting individuals with vital resources, the Foundation plays a critical role in fostering stability and empowerment.
With a strong background in law, nonprofit leadership, donor relations, conflict resolution, and fundraising, I am committed to developing sustainable solutions that uplift vulnerable and rural communities, ensuring that no one is left without the support they deserve.
